Please note that the deadline for abstracts is September 1st, 2008.

IBPSA will hold its 11th bi-annual international conference, the leading international conference in building performance simulation, in summer 2009 at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, has an unrivalled choice of museums, theatres, parks, science centre and shopping, set within some of the finest Victorian architecture in Europe. In addition, Glasgow has a worldwide reputation as a welcoming city and is firmly established and experienced as a major centre for conferences and international events.

The conference organizers are seeking high quality papers and will limit the number of peer-reviewed oral presentations. Submissions will therefore be rigorously peer-reviewed. Simulation-based papers on the following themes are welcomed:

1. advances in building physics

2. human aspects of the indoor environment

3. building services

4. commissioning and operation

5. energy capture and conversion

6. advances in applications

7. validation and calibration

8. software issues

9. simulation in design practice

10. regulation/code compliance

11. application day case studies

Abstracts should be in plain text and no more than 500 words. They should describe clearly the research objectives and new knowledge arising from the research.

One day of the conference will be devoted to practical applications, particularly focusing on simulation in practice with illustrative case studies. Therefore, a limited number of additional papers are invited in order to enable practitioners to demonstrate the benefits flowing from the recent upsurge in the use of simulation in building design. If you wish to contribute such a paper, please ensure it is marked as an application day case study in the abstract submission.

HOW LOW CAN YOU GO - Practical Guidance on Reducing CO2 Emissions

Friday 16 May 2008 at BRE, Watford. Construction and architecture professionals are under increasing pressure to reduce CO2 emissions through legislation and by meeting other critical environmental and financial targets. Previous study days on climate change and sustainability have set the scene and now SCALA and SCEME (the Associations of Chief Architects and Engineers working in Local Government) have once again combined to provide practical guidance in the key area of reducing CO2 emissions. This year's Study Day will be very much a nuts and bolts event with the emphasis being on real experiences and lessons learnt. 11.15 The operational opportunities within the BSF process

A brief overview of the key operational opportunities within the BSF process will be presented. A proposition will be outlined related to the largely under-developed areas of facility management and the associated operational expenses related to these activities. This position will be compared with the primary focus of much of the BSF and Government output to date that has focused on integrating design and education theory. The conclusion will suggest a few key benefits for applied research into operations within the BSF process.

A round table discussion on the BSF process and the delivery of Schools for the future. The presentation will focus on the delivery of the current Newcastle BSF programme and will examine lessons that can be transferred to future schemes. The discussion and presentation will include the views of wide range of stakeholders involved in the Newcastle BSF procurement and delivery.
